History Committee Assignments from Garth

Greetings to our 75th Anniversary Historian Committee,

As Mark and I prepare historical information for our 75th Anniversary History Book, we need all of your help.  Following is a list of decisions and assignments that came from our meeting on October 19th:

1.  It was decided that the book would be 8 1/2″ x 13″ containing 120 pages and costing $75.00  (It will be prepared on line by a company, Blurb.com, that only charge when the books are ordered.)

2.  Every member of the Committee is asked to gather information and photos that would be meaningful to the Club and email it to mwoodruff@mstar2.net or reply in boxes on Mark’s website which he set up to compile this info which is “shrhistory.wordpress.com.”  Or bring the info to our Rotary Club Meeting and give it to Mark or me and we will scan it and return the originals to you.

3.  Chic is assigned to locate photos of past presidents which we have been unable to locate.  Wally made the suggestion that we eliminate titles from their names and include their classification under their photos so we know a little about them.

4.  Cliff/Sam Leaver has given us some of his old photos and books to review and scan.  We also have a write-up and photos from Tirza Stratford about “Rotary Anns” that we will be scanning.

5.  Barry will obtain Sugar House historical books and photos from the Library that we can scan for our history book.

6.  Wally Brown and Paul Halliday will write-up information about their personal experiences with international projects and any other project that they can remember that our Club has been involved with.  Also, Wally will write-up information about the RI Presidents that have visited SLC and their purpose for coming here.

7.  Chili Open – Wally Brown to write-up the historical beginning of the Chili Open and Barry Bank will write-up the current events, notable experiences and money raised to date.  Please submit photos we can scan.

8.  Group Study Exchange – Wayne Ursenbach to write-up his experiences of being a “leader” and Mark Woodruff will write-up his experiences of being  “participant” and both will tell of other Club members who have been leaders and participants.  (Note the current name change of this group.)

9.  Awards – Bev Christy and Paula Bell to write-up information about awards received during their year and any historical information they may have about prior awards.

10.  Youth Exchange – Paula Bell to write-up her experience as a “participant” and Dave Baranowski to write about his experiences as an “advisor” to the program.

11.  Rotaract Sponsored – 2004 – E J Passey to write-up the history and his experience with the formation of this club.

12.  Sponsored Clubs – Holladay (1959), Foothill ( ? ), Kamas ( ? ), & Murray ( ? ).  Please fill in the blanks and confirm that this is all…..and any personal experiences about each club.

13.  Other Presidents & Dist. Gov. from our prior members – Wally gave me (1) Dick Frank – Arizona Dist. Gov., Chris Simonsen – Bountiful Club Pres. & Joe LaGuess – Palm Desert Club Pres.  Do we know of others…..or should we even include them to avoid forgetting someone?

14.  Bob Doidge will write-up a brief history of, and his involvement with Sugar House Park and any involvement our Rotary Club has had with the Park.  (A copy of this email will be mailed to him with our greetings.)

15.  Assigned to ALL:    (1)  Your most memorable activity – sports, plays/theatre, picnics, etc.

(2)  Your list of “traditions” we have maintained.

(3)  Your list of piano players that you remember.

(4)  Your list of locations where our club has met.

(5)  Your list of Sergeant-at-arms over the past 75 years.

(6)  Your list of community service projects that you remember.

(7)  Your favorite Club Program and why.

Our Anniversary Party at Little America is May 6, 2011.  The DEADLINE is March 25,2011 for final submittal of the information for this history book.  But PLEASE complete and submit the above info ASAP.  Are we forgetting anything?

Our next Committee Meeting is Thursday, Dec. 9th @ 11:00, prior to our Club Meeting.

Thanks!

Garth
